Working with Chef Mika Leon in beautiful Coral Gables was an absolute joy — and an honor that continues to remind me how much I love what I do. Mika, known for her bold and soulful Cuban-inspired cuisine, recently took on Beat Bobby Flay in the rematch episode “Ready for a Rematch?!” (Season 40, Episode 5), where she and fellow competitor Poppy O’Toole returned for a second chance to conquer one of the biggest names in the culinary world. Even though the heat was intense and the competition fierce, Mika brought her signature flair to the kitchen, representing Miami’s rich food culture with pride and tenacity.
For this editorial-style day in the life shoot, our goal was to capture the essence of who Mika is — not just as a chef on a national stage, but as a creator, storyteller, and culinary force rooted in community and craft. From candid moments in her kitchen to the radiant energy she brings to every dish, the pre-competition slideshow we created provides a vibrant introduction to Mika and her food that lead viewers into the show. I’m truly honored to work with Food Network again — these shoots are always so much fun and give me an opportunity to collaborate with some of the best chefs in the world. Can’t wait for everyone to see this one.
